The Bonnie’s came away with the victory against the spiders in a thrilling 75 to 71-win Saturday at the Reilly Center. This was a very important win keeping the Bonnie’s in third place still in position to secure a bye in Brooklyn. The Bonnie’s improved to 10-4 in conference play and 18-9 overall. The Spiders won 5 straight headed into Saturday’s matchup including a big win vs. VCU by 18 points. They have four players averaging double digits. The spiders have march madness aspirations as well and are on the fringe of getting in. This loss hurt their chances moving forward and propelled the Bonnies into hopes of making the tournament. This is very unlikely, but the Bonnie’s will be favored against Saint Josephs, Lasalle, and Duquesne. The Bonnie’s will have to beat Saint Louis on the road, the last game of the season to continue their march to tournament hopes. Then, we should be a two or three seed in the A-10 tournament. We will need to make some noise to keep playing basketball in March. Overall, a very big win and contributions from everyone. Our starters all scored over 13 points besides Justin Winston. Bobby Planutis made two three pointers and finished with 9 points. While Jaren English lead us in points, Dom Welch had 12 key rebounds and 16 points. Kyle Lofton made his impact passing the ball leading the Bonnie’s with 7 assists.
By the Numbers:
- Since 2016, the Bonnie’s are 30-8 in February and have won 18 of the past 21 games during the month. The Bonnie’s have not lost back-to-back February games in five years!
- St. Bonaventure has not lost consecutive games at home multiple different times in the same year since the 2014-15 season.
- Osun Osunniyi’s 9.3 rebounds per game during Atlantic 10 play is 4th during conference play
- Kyle Lofton is the only player in the Atlantic 10 to average over six assists per game this year and the only A-10 player to hand out double-digit assists three different times this season.
